Job Description

Summary

This job involves traveling across Michigan to investigate complaints about mobile home communities that might be breaking state rules, gathering evidence through interviews and inspections, and sometimes testifying in hearings.

It's perfect for someone detail-oriented with a background in investigations or law enforcement who enjoys fieldwork and ensuring fair regulations for residents.

Entry-level positions require a relevant degree, while higher levels need progressive experience in similar regulatory or detective work.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, criminal justice, criminology, law enforcement, police administration, security and loss prevention, or related field
  • For Regulation Agent 9: No specific experience required beyond education
  • For Regulation Agent 10: One year of professional experience in regulation and investigative services equivalent to Regulation Agent 9
  • For Regulation Agent P11: Two years of professional experience in regulation and investigative services, including one year equivalent to Regulation Agent 10
  • Substitution: Two to four years of experience as a sworn detective at a law enforcement agency (depending on level) may replace education and experience requirements
  • Ability to conduct statewide field investigations, interviews, evidence collection, and inspections under the Mobile Home Commission Act
  • Willingness to testify in administrative hearings and comply with rules of evidence and Administrative Procedures Act

Full Job Description


This position conducts investigations of licensed or unlicensed mobile home communities alleged to be in violation of the Mobile Home Commission Act on a statewide basis. This position will also conduct interviews of relevant witnesses, obtain evidence to support or disprove an allegation in accordance with the rules of evidence and the Administrative Procedures Act, conduct field investigations and inspections relating to potential violations of the Mobile Home Commission Act, and may be required to testify in administrative hearings.
