Full Job Description

The Preservation Specialist is an entry-level position that performs an expanding range of project management assignments and tasks for the Preservation team subdivision of the Housing & Revitalization Department. They will be responsible for supporting the Preservation team. Candidates should expect to learn many different facets of the affordable housing development industry.

This position is expected to be funded through November 27, 2026.

Requirements

- Facilitating transitions between information storage systems by uploading initial information, drafting new file structures for review by supervisor, and creating guides

- Assisting in activities which support negotiating with developers based on resident needs and City standards

- Tracking data related to Tenant Retention Plans and Uniform Relocation Act requirements

- Drafting tenant retention plans

- Reviewing and understanding City policies related to tenant retention

- Observing and suggesting policies and procedures that would make processes more efficient from a new perspective

- Assisting with and supporting review of development projects’ financial conditions, including in development pro formas

- Communicating with Detroit residents, real estate developers, and property managers

- Coordinating meetings with developers

- Facilitating correspondence with developers

- Providing key updates on project details and statuses

- Other duties as necessary
