Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves teaching basic sailing and boating safety courses to military personnel, their families, retirees, and authorized civilians at a Navy installation in Annapolis, Maryland.
The role requires planning lessons, ensuring safety on the water, and maintaining records, with a focus on weekend and seasonal programs.
It's ideal for someone passionate about sailing who enjoys instructing diverse groups and has strong teaching and leadership skills.
Plans, schedules and conducts weekend basic keelboat courses IAW guidelines established by US Navy Sailing Association for military active duty personnel and their dependents, retirees and authorized civilians.
This position is subject to instructing the summer and winter boater safety courses that are offered.
A strong background in sailing with a minimum of 1 year sailing experience, on water safety at an instructor level, good communication and teaching skills, ability to work with a diverse range of students, past leadership experience or the desire to develop leadership abilities.
Major Duties:
Works in conjunction with scheduling administrator, prepares course materials. Provides adequate supervision and instruction to ensure participant health and safety.
Accurately completes records and reports on student performance and boat maintenance.
Evaluates effectiveness of ongoing courses, devises, improvises and adapts sailing activities to fit the conditions of water environment and to conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment and staff.
May assist supervisor in developing annual budget, procurement of equipment, formulating long range plans, safety programs and public relations undertakings. Performs other related duties as assigned.
