About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to Outdoor Recreation on Nellis AFB, NV.

Flexible employees have no guaranteed hours but may work up to 40 hours per week. This position does not offer benefits. Required to lift and carry heavy items up to 75 pounds.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have one or more years of experience instructing one or more of the following activities: mountain biking, rock climbing, canyoneering, mountaineering, backcountry skiing or snowboarding, pack rafting, rafting, backpacking, kayak touring.

The following certifications are highly desirable: Wilderness First Responder/Wilderness First Aid, AMGA Single Pitch Instructor or PCIA Single Pitch Instructor, as well as certifications in avalanche and swift water rescue.

Additional training or certifications in skiing, snowboarding, paddle sports, or mountain biking instruction are also highly desired. Ability to communicate effectively.

Must have knowledge of basic inventory and stock record procedures, management procedures, and general business principles. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Major Duties:

The purpose of this position is to serve as an Outdoor Recreation Specialist for overall management, planning, maintenance and control of all outdoor facilities and equipment.

Develops, organizes, and implements seasonal outdoor programs to include, but not limited to a variety of land and water-related activities and services (e.g., aquatics, camping, backpacking, nature hikes, canoeing, rafting, rock climbing, bicycling, skiing, etc.).

Plans and coordinates activities within the limitations of available facilities, equipment, staff, and financial resources. Schedules and publicizes outdoor recreation activities.

Arranges for off-base equipment, transportation, supplies, and services needed to accomplish scheduled activities. Establishes contact with various off-base agencies.

Solicits volunteers and individual activity orientation and training. Instructs participants in the activity for which the employee has technical expertise.

Gathers, monitors, and maintains data to complete reports, respond to inquiries and assists others. Assists with periodic program plans and quarterly and annual budget requirements.

Ensures safety orientation is provided to paid and volunteer staff and participants regarding specific activities.

Determines program needs and objectives through the use of patron requests, surveys, and current trends.

Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities and adapts various programs in accordance with findings. Plans and organizes special events as assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Director.

Provides information and advises patrons of available recreation resources and opportunities in the area.

May be required to act as trip/tour guide, supervise volunteers and perform personally, a broad variety of general clerical and administrative functions.

May become involved in supply functions such as receipt, storage, issue, and maintenance. Position is a Position of Trust.
