Summary

This job involves working as a lifeguard and operations assistant at an outdoor recreation pool on a Texas Air Force base, where you'll supervise swimmers, organize swim events and activities, and handle tasks like collecting fees and training staff.

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the 47th Force Support Squadron, located at Outdoor Recreation, Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas.

This position is Flexible, guaranteed a minimum of 0 hours but can work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week. May include nights, weekends and holidays.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures.

Must possess current and valid nationally recognized basic first aid and CPR certifications, CPR certification must include adult, child and infant procedures.

WSI certification is desired, but not required. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment.

Limited knowledge of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform standing and recurring tasks is needed.

Some physical exertion is required in effecting a swimming rescue, must be able to lift 45 lbs and over. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.

Ability to safeguard and handle cash and some cash register experience is preferred but not necessary. Satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check with Inquiries is required.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:

Under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Manager, organizes, promotes and schedules swim meets, special events and daily activities to address differing needs of the base populace.

Supplements lifeguards on stand in order to assist in rescue if needed, provide additional scanning of swim area, and to relieve guards for necessary breaks or rotations.

Observes the condition and behavior of swimmers to ascertain any potential problems. Resolves routine problems and/or conflicts and elevates complex issues to the Pool Manager or ODR Manager.

Instructs cautions and/or expels patrons as appropriate. Answers questions on procedures, policies, directives and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems.

Under the direction of the Pool Manager or ODR Manager, instructs lifeguards and water safety instructors in specific daily tasks, procedures, and ensures timely accomplishment of work assignments.

Is expected to participate in the performing of daily tasks and procedures, and aid in the accomplishment of work assignments.

Monitors students during swim lessons or water aerobics for problems such as signs of fatigue or struggle, demonstrates swim strokes and/or aerobic moves.

Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability and certification to perform lifesaving and water rescue and to -administer first aid and CPR.

Coordinates with ODR Manager on staff schedules, collects fees, makes change, completes daily cashier reports, makes daily deposits and registers individuals for appropriate level swim classes.

Ensures pool chemicals are maintained within the proper guidelines and safety zones. Uses a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.

Notifies emergency medical services (EMS) and/or other appropriate personnel for more serious accidents/injuries. Uses equipment such as first aid kits, ring buoys, shepherd's crook and backboards.

Assists in cleaning assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, pool/pool decks, locker rooms, showers, gutters, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions.

Verifies customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Performs other related duties as assigned.
