Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping run an outdoor recreation program on an Air Force base in Montana, where you'll rent out equipment like skis, boats, and bikes, maintain and repair them, and assist customers with safe usage.

It's a flexible part-time role with no guaranteed hours, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, has basic mechanical skills, and is comfortable driving in tough weather.

Full Job Description

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the 341 FSS, Outdoor Recreation. This position is considered flexible.

You are guaranteed 0 hours, however could work up to 40 hours per week. As a flexible employee, you are not eligible to earn leave or other NAF benefits.

All applicants MUST possess a current state driver's license. This is a Drug Tested Designated Position. Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

An applicant's eligibility will be determined based on eligibility claimed in the questionnaire and proof of eligibility MUST be provided with application by the closing date, 01/24/2026 Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have experience which provided a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs; and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned.

Skill in repairing skis and installing ski bindings is highly desirable. Must have the ability to operate vans and trucks with manual transmissions in all weather conditions.

Must possess a current state driver's license. This is a Drug Tested designated Position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Must be able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to I00 pounds. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Major Duties:

Performs and/or assists in operation and maintenance of outdoor recreational facilities and equipment.

Types of duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Tests skiing and boating equipment for safe operation; demonstrates equipment and techniques of various outdoor activities; inspects outdoor recreation facilities and equipment for security and general conditions; and schedules boats and other outdoor recreation equipment and areas for use.

Issues and receives equipment loans and rentals. Verifies customer and guest eligibility. Operates cash register and makes change. Sells new and used items. Sets up displays.

Provides customers with pertinent information about outdoor recreation programs including off base recreation opportunities.

Performs basic maintenance and repairs on bicycles, skis, lawn and garden equipment and other recreational equipment.

Lifts boat motors from boat units, and lifts trailer tongues while attaching them to vehicle receivers. Troubleshoots 12-volt electrical connections.

May occasionally tow outdoor recreational equipment to off base sites. Performs other related duties as assigned.
