About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Arts & Crafts Center.

The Recreation Assistant acts as the front-line representative for the Arts & Crafts Center, providing support to both staff and patrons; and assists to create product master-pieces.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have clerical or retail experience demonstrating proficiency in customer service. Must have experience dealing with the public. Must have knowledge of computer software (ex.

Google products, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Products, etc.). Experience with Corell Draw or Graphic design programs is highly desirable. Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Math skills which should be possessed upon completion of secondary basic math programs. Position requires continuous standing, walking and stooping.

Incumbent may be subject to adhesives, paint fumes, and gases. Must be physically able to lift and carry items up to and including 30 pounds.

Must be able to satisfactorily complete a preemployment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:

Acts as the front-line representative for the Arts & Crafts Center, providing support to both staff and patrons.

Manages the complete order cycle, which includes taking customer orders, providing advice on products and design possibilities, creating a product, tracking product orders, and completing sales transactions.

Assists customers in placing special orders. Handles general office tasks, such as answering telephone calls, welcoming visitors, and responding to inquiries about the center's activities and services.

Creates a wide variety of custom products, including but not limited to plaques, trophies, nameplates, picture frames, and shadow boxes.

Utilizes specialized computer software to operate a diverse range of professional and industrial equipment. (Ex.

computerized laser engravers, heat presses, mat cutters, kilns, sublimation presses, embroidery machines, etc.) Proficiently uses a wide array of professional power tools, hand power tools, and manual hand tools to complete projects.

Provides general machine maintenance. Measures and cuts various materials, including metal, plastic, matting, glass, and acrylic stock.

Operates a cash register, collects payments, makes change, and issues receipts for all transactions.

Performs end-of-shift financial procedures, including closing out the cash register, completing all required paperwork, and submitting the final package to a supervisor.

Ensures the security of all merchandise, equipment, and funds under their responsibility.

Assists with monthly inventory counts, restocking of supplies, and may support the supervisor on duty as needed. Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work environment for both staff and patrons.
