Key Requirements

  • Water Safety Instructor Certification from American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, Star Guard, or equivalent nationally recognized agency
  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Work experience in aquatics instruction or related swimming duties
  • Ability to teach swimming to all levels and age groups, from infants to adults
  • Knowledge of swimming strokes including front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly
  • Skills in developing swim programs based on students' abilities and promoting safety and survival techniques

This position is located at Fort Leavenworth Aquatics Program. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Work experience related to the duties described above and possession of the following certificates (Certificates issue by American Red Cross, Ellis @ Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable): Water Safety Instructor Certification Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) First Aid Certification Certifications or proof of enrollment must be uploaded with your application packet In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess Lifeguard certification Major Duties:

  • Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills.
  • Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include; front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
  • Teach students from age groups of infant through adults. Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to level of instruction.
  • Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.
