Summary

This job involves helping run an arts and crafts center at the U.S.

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Arts and Crafts Center, Air Force Academy, Colorado. This position does not include benefits.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have knowledge to perform and resolve common arithmetical problems, including fractions and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.

Must have prior experience with cash handling procedures and operation of cash registers.

A basic knowledge of common artistic terms, picture framing and other art processes such as painting, pottery and wood working is highly desirable.

A Local Files Check (LFC) and National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) are required. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:

Works and/or assists other recreation assistants or employees in the operation and maintenance of the Arts and Crafts Center.

Provides assistance to facility users by explaining function and features available of equipment and recreational activities. Inspects facilities and equipment to assure safe condition and cleanliness.

Operates and demonstrates the use of equipment to self-help customers and ensures that safety rules are adhered to. Performs minor repairs and adjustments of equipment as necessary.

Operates a cash register and prepares daily cash handling reports. Collects, safeguards and deposits fees received from customers. Assists in conducting inventories, filing and maintaining records.

May be required to take orders for custom framing projects as well as learn to cut mats and glass and assemble orders. May operate a frame cutting saw to produce wood frames.

May assist with pottery studio, stained glass classes or other shop activities. Assures to shop policies and procedures, as well as maintain the shop in a clean and orderly condition.

Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a developmental position having known promotion potential to the 05225NF-0189-II level.

Upon completion of 6 months experience at the NF-0189-1 Recreation Aid level, training on the computerized mat cutter, as well as demonstrated the ability to perform in framing and matting operations, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the higher pay band.
