About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and is located at the Aquatics - Outdoor Recreation on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Experience which provided a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and procedures; skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.

Water Safety Instructor Certificate is desirable. Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs unassisted and participate in reoccurring physical fitness training.

Certification Requirements: Current Red Cross Lifeguard: First Aid, CPR and AED Certificate, identifying date completed and are within 2 yrs. of completion date. Major Duties:

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures that the swimming area is open to patrons at the scheduled times and that authorized persons are only admitted to the area.

Rescue swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed.

Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.

When working at pools may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure poolwater meets specified standards.

Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made.

May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc.

May be scheduled to work at any of the swimming facilities assigned to 18 FSS (Hagerstrom, Chibana or Fairchild pools).

Alerts supervisor to problems with equipment, facility, lack of supplies, and patron complaints. Responsible for filling out accident forms according to established guidelines and time frames.

May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned.
