Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a lifeguard at various pools and beaches on a military base in Alabama, ensuring the safety of swimmers by watching for dangers, performing rescues if needed, and helping with swim lessons and pool maintenance.

Key Requirements

  • Possess and maintain American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification (or equivalent from Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS)
  • Hold American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certification (or equivalent from American Heart Association)
  • Hold First Aid certification
  • Ability to provide pool surveillance, respond to emergencies, perform rescues, and administer first aid
  • Assist with swim lessons, water survival training, and maintaining clean, hazard-free pool areas

Full Job Description

This position is located at Aquatics.

Incumbents for these vacancies can be assigned at West Beach, Lake Tholocco, PFC Indoor Pool, or Flynn Pool and may be transferred between facilities as the need arises.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possesses and maintains the following certifications: 1.Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS). 2.American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional.

3.CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED) 4.First Aid.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess at least six (6) months to one (1) year of work experience as a lifeguard.

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 as of October 2020 and assisting with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide.
  • Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty.
  • Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures. Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions.
  • Lifeguards will participate in any required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
  • Attend aquatics and /or safety trainings as directed.
  • Adheres to Customer Service Standards of the Installation.
