This job involves helping to plan, run, and improve outdoor recreational programs like kayaking, hiking, and camping at a city parks center, while also managing daily operations and interacting with people of all ages.
A good fit would be someone energetic and organized who enjoys working with youth, adults, and seniors in community settings and has some background in recreation activities.
The role requires flexibility for weekends and evenings to support events and programs.
Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating outdoor recreational programs (such as but not limited to kayaking, camping, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, orienteering, etc.) and daily activities of the center.
Serves on committees for the planning and marketing of events. Assists in managing facility operations and aids employees.
Interacts with children, teens, adults, and seniors.Participates in activities in addition to providing informational materials, directing volunteers and part-time employees as well as contributes to the cultural growth of individuals.
Assists with the management of daily operations of the facility by scheduling and monitoring volunteers and part-time employees, compiling figures and preparing reports, providing lesson plans and program planning, authorizing permits, and collecting fees for programs and rental of the facility.
Interacts with citizens by responding to inquiries, and contributing to the growth and development of youth, teens, adults, seniors, and volunteers.
Markets the recreation program by distributing flyers and announcements to the community and submitting press releases. Serves on committees for the planning and marketing of events.
Performs related duties by carrying out administrative responsibilities, transporting patrons, submits and writes initiatives and provides input on purchases.
Qualifications Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.
Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.
Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.Six months experience.The preferred candidate will possess:Academic study in Recreation and Tourism, Physical Education, or any closely related field.A Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Tourism or any any closely related field.At least one year of experience in outdoor recreation and leisure activities.At least one year of experience working with youth, teens, adults, or seniors.CPR and First Aid Certification.
