This job involves managing a shooting range for a special operations unit in the U.S.
Border Patrol, including scheduling its use, maintaining equipment, handling firearms and ammunition securely, and training others on safety.
It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in range operations or law enforcement support who thrives in a high-security federal environment.
Candidates should be detail-oriented and comfortable with procurement and budget tasks in a team setting.
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S.
Border Patrol, Special Operations Group, BORTAC, located in El Paso, TX.
Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Managing functions related to range operations, weapons/ammunition accountability, and firearms training Planning and scheduling range usage and coordinating range facility maintenance Maintaining security and accountability of firearms and ammunition Delivering range safety training that incorporates evolving best practices Ordering and procuring range related supplies and equipment and assisting with budget requirements NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.

The Range Management Specialist (Range Officer) provides armory support services, facilitates firearms and less-lethal device maintenance, and coordinates and facilitates training for special operations, law enforcement, and DoD personnel.
Duties and responsibilities include: Developing and implementing policies and procedures for range scheduling, usage, and maintenance; serving as the primary point of contact for range users, providing expert guidance and assistance on range-related matters Coordinating with facilities management and outside contractors regarding upkeep of the range facilities; ensuring they meet standards for functionality, safety, and environmental compliance Maintaining inventory accuracy through established databases and systems, conducting inventory audits and verifying serviceability of assets Implementing robust security protocols to prevent loss, theft, or misuse of firearms and ammunition.
Tracking expenses and obligations related to range maintenance, supplies, and equipment, developing budget estimates for range requirements and monitoring the performance of contracts for range services and supplies, ensuring compliance with specifications.
