About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) two years by a current permanent Army employee.Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years.

Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes routine inspections for safety and maintenance on the range such as, contracting compliance, munition storage, facility conditions, and/or targets.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Major Duties:

• Perform range safety operations functions to include on-site inspections of ranges and/or training areas.
• Inspect Range Operations Support Services Contractors in accordance with the Quality Assurance Surveillance Program (QASP) to report findings to the Contracting Officer Representative.
• Support Range Operations and training personnel by providing administrative and technical assistance.
• Provide instructions for thorough policing of all range debris such as, ammunition, brass, trash, and/or residue by using units.
• Advise units conducting training on all matters pertaining to safety such as, ammo suspension, weather warnings, heat index readings, and/or any other information to the wellbeing of personnel on the range.
