This entry-level Purchasing Agent role with the Defense Logistics Agency involves handling the buying process for supplies and services, from researching vendors and preparing purchase orders to checking deliveries and monitoring supplier performance.
It's a developmental position starting at GS-5, where you'll learn on the job in a government setting focused on defense needs.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.
To qualify at the Grade 5 level (GS-05), applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the Grade 4 level (GS-04) or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector, (see below examples).
To qualify at the Grade 6 level (GS-06), applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the Grade 5 level (GS-05) or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector (see below examples).
To qualify at the Grade 7 level (GS-07), applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the Grade 6 level (GS-06) or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector (see below examples).
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Examples of creditable specialized experience includes: If applying at the Grade 5 (GS-05): Communicating with customers to better understand their needs.

Resolving discrepancies with vendors. Monitoring vendor performance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
