This internship with the Iowa Department of Transportation involves helping update plans for managing public transit assets, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting communication with transit teams across the state.
It starts in Summer 2026 and includes some travel within Iowa.

Are you passionate about transportation and providing valuable service to Iowans? Join the Iowa Department of Transportation as a Public Transit Intern and play an important role in supporting public transit across the state.
The Public Transit Planning Intern will work directly with DOT Modal Transportation Bureau – Public Transit team staff to update the Transit Asset Management Group Plan, the transit facility inventory and assessment, and provide support for other public transit functions.
This position offers a collaborative work environment with the opportunity to work on project teams and contribute to project deliverables.
Some in-state travel required, including possible overnight stays.
Public Transit intern duties (beginning Summer 2026 – up to 40 hours/week):
