Full Job Description

The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Alcohol & Tax Operations Division is currently seeking a Public Service Supervisor.

The Operations Division functions as the central hub for both alcohol and tax-related processes and procedures.

This division is responsible for administering the transportation and distribution of wholesale alcoholic liquor to more than 2,000 privately-owned retailers across Iowa, ensuring they are delivered on time and in good condition.

Additionally, this division manages tax documents, payments and mail, as well as offering invaluable assistance to taxpayers for filing requirements and procedures.


This position will be fully on site, working out of the Hoover building in Des Moines.


In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Coach, mentor, train and recognize employees to inspire them to perform at their maximum level.
  • Provide Leadership and direction for Mail Processing Operations employees.
  • Implement objectives and strategies for team members.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of programs, systems and employees.
  • Engage in cross-functional teams and continuous process improvement opportunities.
  • Update and maintain tracking documentation.


Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

  • Develop objectives and strategies for the team.
  • Engage with cross functional teams in continuous process improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor progress and provide coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Monitor overall production levels and process cycle times of the team to ensure they are meeting section performance goals.

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Administration and Management - Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Customer Service - Principles and processes for providing customer services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • Information Ordering - Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations)
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and experience equal to four years of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; specialized technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations.
2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent); and
b. One year of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations; and
c. A total of three years of education and full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
