About the Position: Public Safety Telecommunicator for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Law Enforcement responders, monitor alarms and activating Mass Notification Systems in Army Garrison Public Safety, 911 Centers.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Answering emergency 911 calls conducting emergency and non-emergency call processing 2) Dispatching appropriate equipment/vehicles required for different emergency situations.

3) Maintaining accurate log information and updating access rosters to ensure proper security and compliance of monitored facilities.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Major Duties:

  • Answer 911 calls, conducts emergency and non-emergency call processing using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) consoles or CAD capability through NG911 modernization, if applicable, and or Land Mobile Radios (LMR).
  • Perform caller interrogation to determine type of response to dispatch, police, fire, and EMS personnel and vehicles/apparatus as needed.
  • Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situation.
  • Provide appropriate information to the responding units and maintains accurate status of all assets to ensure the safety of responders and vehicle accountability.
  • Provide initial Incident Command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene.
  • Operate various communication equipment, systems and databases such as crash phones, Language Line, Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD).
  • Monitor the installation/facility integrated alarm system to dispatch appropriate response.
