Summary

This role involves working as a licensed practical nurse in school health settings for Metro Nashville Public Health, providing basic nursing care to students, performing screenings and treatments under RN supervision, and maintaining records to keep kids healthy and in class.

It's a part-time position (80%) focused on hands-on support in clinics or schools, with flexibility to move between locations as needed.

Ideal for an experienced LPN who enjoys working with children, values teamwork, and is reliable in emergencies.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from a state-approved school of practical nursing
  • One year of experience as a licensed practical nurse
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an LPN in Tennessee
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle with required insurance
  • Ability to provide nursing care, perform procedures like injections, and conduct screening tests under RN supervision

Metro Nashville Public Health (MPHD) is seeking an energetic and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join our School Health team.

The Metro Nashville Public Health Department (MPHD) proudly provides school nurses to traditional Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) keeping students healthy, in school, and ready to learn.

The incumbent will perform the more responsible, non-registered nurse duties and related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Provides nursing care to patients in a home or clinic.
  • Performs procedures and nursing care under the supervision of an RN including giving injections and other simple treatments as ordered.
  • Prepare patients for examinations.
  • Records observations of symptoms, reactions, and care and treatment given.
  • Performs various screening tests.
  • Prepares and cares for equipment used by physicians or other professional workers.
  • May be assigned to different clinic / work locations as needed.
  • Keeps records and prepares reports.
  • Responds and reports to the directives of the Director of Health in case of emergency or disasters.
  • Demonstrates MPHD’s core values Equity, Integrity, Professionalism, Respect and Transparency when interacting with the public and employees of the Metropolitan Government.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable physical presence at a worksite is an essential function of all Public Health Nursing positions in this series.Many aspects of patient care require face-to-face interaction.

    Moreover, all MPHD nursing positions require in-person teamwork and a high level of interaction with fellow staff members.

    Qualifications

    • Graduation from a state-approved school of practical nursing
    • One (1) year of experience as a licensed practical nurse.
    • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Tennessee.
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
    • Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
