Job Description
Summary
This job involves working as a school nurse in Nashville public schools, providing health care, screenings, and support to students while following the school schedule including summer programs.
It's a part-time role (80%) in a busy public health setting focused on student well-being.
A good fit would be a compassionate registered nurse with some experience who enjoys working with kids and diverse communities.
Key Requirements
- Licensed or eligible for RN licensure in Tennessee
- Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing (Bachelor’s preferred); must demonstrate competency if not holding a Bachelor’s
- Complete a department-approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of employment
- Valid Class D driver’s license, personal vehicle, and valid insurance per Tennessee law
- At least 6 months of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Ability to work with multicultural communities and address health inequities

The School Health Program of the Metro Public Health Department is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to work in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. This is your chance to work in a program that supports our Metro Nashville Public Schools by providing nursing services to the students of Nashville and Davidson County.This Public Health Nurse position will work the Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools Schedule Plus the Metro Schools Summer Programming schedule.

Requirements
Provides nursing services in Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools.Evaluates the health needs of students attending assigned schools.Provides or arranges for selected screenings and assessments.Provides care coordination/case management.Provides generalized health services.Implements medication distribution system.Maintains student health records.Performs related duties.
Qualifications Licensed or eligible for RN licensure in Tennessee. Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing.
Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered.
Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing preferred.All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment.
Possess required competencies upon hiring.Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
