This position is in the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a national museum for the study and exhibition of African American history and culture.
Basic Qualification: Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
In addition to the basic qualification requirement above: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service.
For this position, specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience using multiple social media platforms and applications for a museum, blog, educational or cultural institution; participating in the development of social media content, partnerships, and strategies; and using digital platforms to tell engaging stories on real-time live video platforms.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.

Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

Major Duties:
The Social Media Content Specialist is responsible for facilitating content development and approval processes in accordance with established guidelines while supporting strategy implementation to engage audiences through social media.
In this position, you will: research, write, edit, publish, and monitor social media content across platforms that builds meaningful connections with audiences encouraging engagement with the museum's collections, exhibitions, programming, educational initiatives, web content, and the Searchable Museum.
implement testing and recommend adjustments to content towards engaging and educating online audiences while fostering dialogue and influencing engagement across content types, cultural moments, campaigns and historical commemorations.
educate colleagues across the museum about social media, how it's best used for maximum impact and share recommendations for adoption that will leverage social media to accomplish museum goals.
identify ways to empower audiences to contribute to a national dialogue on African American history and culture leveraging micro moments, annual commemorations, and historical milestones that will encourage reflection and discussion connecting to the museum's collection, programming and initiatives.
