DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*Provides general supervision and coordination in reviewing contractors’ compliance with plans and specifications.
*Oversee the inspection activities and personnel to review and evaluate contractors’ compliance on various construction project plans and specifications.
*Review preliminary plans and evaluate future plans for construction.
*Review contractor submittals.
*Resolve construction problems.
*Operate vehicle to and from various construction sites.
*Attend pre-bid, pre-construction and other meetings.
*Prepare and review various reports and records.
*Provide management of multiple contracts of various sites.
*Serve as liaison between City personnel and contractors, consultants, or testing laboratories.
*Reviews, approves and tracks consultant or testing laboratory estimates. May develop standard protocol for environmental and geotechnical investigations.
WORKING CONDITIONSThe position involves stooping or bending. Occasionally very light lifting such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier II Level.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSFour years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNone
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in construction, operations, maintenance of surface water and/or ground water treatment processes.
***Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

SALARY INFORMATIONFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
PAY GRADE: 25
