Base salary range: $37,764 - $49,094

This job involves providing everyday administrative help for safety programs in a veterans' hospital, such as checking fire extinguishers, ordering protective gear, and tracking hazardous materials.
It's a behind-the-scenes role that keeps safety operations running smoothly through paperwork, data entry, and communication.

This position provides administrative support the following elements of the Safety Management Programs of Fire Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection and Hazard Communication.
Program support will include completion of monthly fire extinguisher inspection, completion of processing order requests for purchase of safety equipment and assisting in the management of the hazardous material inventory.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/02/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of the principles and methods for planning or managing the implementation, update, or integration of information systems components; Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.; Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work; Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.
Typing requirement: Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but requires a great deal of walking, standing, stooping, bending is required. Carrying light items such as books, papers and files is required. Major Duties:
This position will perform clerical and liaison support for all facets of Safety Management Program.
The Program Support Assistant uses tact and professionalism in communications with internal and external sources requesting safety information and/or reports.
Duties include but are not limited to: Knowledge of duties, commitments, goals, and priorities of the Safety Management Program Section of Quality Management and Performance Improvement to perform such tasks as assembling information for responses to inquiries, arranging meetings, and briefing the staff on activities during absences.
Proficiency in maintaining extensive files. Attention to detail such as names, dates, deadlines, signatures, and proper use of forms. Knowledge of procedures for ordering supplies and equipment.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds and varying ages.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and organize work plans and priorities to ensure timely submission of complete work. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and required formats.
Ability to plan effectively and organize work in order to achieve goals and positive outcomes.
Skill in operating an electric typewriter, word processor, VISTA computer· system, Outlook, EMail, Telefax and copiers. A qualified typist is required.
Knowledge in the use of a personal computer that includes Microsoft Windows Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is required.
