Full Job Description

The incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant (PSA) to the Non-Institutional (NIC)/Extended Care Program RN Coordinators at the El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAHCS).

The PSA will provide support to a variety of programs and personnel within those programs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/03/2026.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-5 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: work efficiently under stressful situations; interpersonal skills to resolve or refer situations on both administration and Veteran customer level; knowledge of VA regulations governing eligibility; telephone, customer service and interpersonal skills; maintain budget preparations and statistics for reports; maintain records; data management and communication skills; operate personal computer and various software packages; knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and required format in order to prepare and proofread correspondence; experienced typist; and ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.

OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four years above high school.

This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

(Transcript Required) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level.

You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) to be creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

(Transcript Required) AND Typing Proficiency: Typing skill of 40 words per minute is necessary.

Major Duties:

Aids the Program Coordinators in getting things accomplished through an extensive knowledge and understanding of the organization, regulation, methods and the other tools or resources of management.

Assists in the receipt, review, processing and facilitation of digital signatures from VA providers for services rendered within the NIC/Extended Care programs.

Is an important member of the team and is relied upon to have extensive communication with the Veteran enrolled in the programs.

Supports all administrative functions for the non-institutional care programs.

Maintains and tracks program census, assists in preparation of all program reports Assists in tracking internal reviews, action items, quality measures, and the efficiency of the NIC/Extended Care Programs.

Performs work involving the collection, compilation and/or tracking of data and statistical information in support of the organization's non-institutional programs.

Assists in the planning, review and reporting of data/statistical results of program studies. Coordinates incoming data from a variety of sources.

Reviews documents, reports and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Uses software applications to draw information to prepare/assist in preparation of reports.

Coordinates incoming data from a variety of sources. Maintains a variety of files for administrative and professional activities. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
