Job Description

Summary

This role involves overseeing environmental programs focused on land cleanup, waste management, and redevelopment in the EPA's regional office, including planning operations, managing budgets and staff, and ensuring everything runs efficiently.

A good fit would be an experienced leader with a background in environmental policy or administration who enjoys directing teams and solving operational challenges to protect public health and the environment.

It's a senior position requiring on-site work in Boston.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This position is in the Office of the Regional Administrator Region 1, Land, Chemical and Redevelopment Division. About: Region 1.

This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for the GS-15 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-14 level defined as planning, organizing, directing and evaluating an environmental or administrative program; and leading others and managing budget and human resources issues.

You will: In coordination with the Director, plans, coordinates, and manages Land Division programs and operations—such as RCRA, UST/LUST, Brownfields, and cleanup/redevelopment activities—to ensure efficient use of resources in alignment with established EPA policies and guidance.

Reviews and evaluates the Land, Chemicals and Redevelopment Division's organizational effectiveness and operational impact across land, waste, and cleanup programs; develops data-driven recommendations to enhance processes, optimize resource use, and improve performance in alignment with EPA policies and land program goals.

Assists in directing day-to-day Land Division operations—individually and through delegation to Office/Branch Chiefs—by overseeing correspondence control, budget formulation and execution, and meeting coordination across RCRA, UST/LUST, Brownfields, and cleanup/redevelopment activities.

Supervises assigned staff by providing guidance and counseling on established policies and procedures; monitors day-to-day compliance and performance; and addresses routine employee relations issues.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
