Full Job Description

The Program Coordinator - Sports is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department.

The primary duties of this position consist of planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a variety of youth and adult sports programs, leagues, and special events.

This position ensures equitable access to recreational sports opportunities and promotes health, wellness, and community engagement through athletics.

This position works varying shifts as needed, which includes nights & weekends, and may be assigned to multiple work sites or rotate between facilities.


Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County.

Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway.

Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55+), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more.

Requirements

  • Develops seasonal sports programming schedules and coordinates facility use.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises part-time staff, officials, and volunteers.
  • Oversees registration, team formation, and league operations.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards. League rules, and departmental policies.
  • Collaborates with community partners, schools, and other Metro departments.
  • Maintains accurate records, prepares reports, and evaluates program effectiveness.
  • Coordinates marketing and outreach for sports programs.
  • Manages program budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Responds to public inquiries and resolves participant concerns.
  • Supports special events and department-wide initiatives as needed.
  • Directly supervises part-time staff, referees, scorekeepers, and volunteers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Physical Education or a related field and two (2) years of experience in program administration.

  • Knowledge of league rules, safety standards, and risk management practices for athletic programs.

  • Experience with ADA compliance and inclusive recreation programming,
  • Knowledge in current trends in youth and adult sports and community recreation.
  • Knowledge in sports officiating standards and league governance.
  • Experience in special events planning (e.g. tournaments, sports festivals).
