Job Description

Summary

This entry-level role in the Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General involves supporting teams that review and inspect government programs to ensure they follow laws and run efficiently.

You'll collect data, analyze policies, and help create reports on findings, often working as part of a team on smaller projects.

We are seeking a highly-motivated professional employee with experience in providing superior customer service in support of our mission to promote integrity, efficiency, and accountability within the Department of Justice.

Recent Graduate Program Eligibility: To meet these requirements at the GS-07 grade level, you must have obtained a qualifying bachelor's or equivalent degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years from the close of the announcement date.

To meet these requirements at the GS-09 grade level, you must have obtained a qualifying master's, professional, doctoral, or technical/vocational degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years from close of announcement date.

Preference-eligible veterans who have been precluded from applying due to their military service obligation have as much as 6 years after acquiring a qualifying degree to apply.

Qualification Requirements: All applicants must meet one of the of the following eligibility requirements to qualify for this position at the respective grade levels below: At the GS-07 grade level: A Bachelor's or equivalent degree, preferably in a field requiring one or more of the following: 1) Collecting and analyzing information from diverse data sources; 2) Evaluating internal and external policy; 3) Communicating complex issues both in writing and verbally; 4) Possessing knowledge of how to use various databases and spreadsheets, and developing graphs, charts, or other data visualizations to organize, analyze, and present a variety of data.

2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR Specialized experience at the GS-5 level received from paid or unpaid experience that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: 1) Collecting and analyzing information from diverse data sources; 2) Evaluating internal and external policy; 3) Communicating complex issues both in writing and verbally; 4) Possessing knowledge of how to use various databases and spreadsheets, and developing graphs, charts, or other data visualizations to organize, analyze, and present a variety of data.

At the GS-09 grade level: A Master's or equivalent degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B.

or J.D., if related, OR Specialized experience at the GS-7 level received from paid or unpaid experience that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: 1) Collecting and analyzing information from diverse data sources; 2) Interviewing individuals to gather information; 3) Evaluating internal and external policy; 4) Communicating complex and/or controversial issues both in writing and verbally; 5) Possessing sound knowledge of how to use various databases and spreadsheets, and developing graphs, charts, and other data visualizations to organize, analyze, and present a variety of data.

You must meet the requirements within 90 days of the closing date on the announcement. Major Duties:

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected office that is responsible for evaluations, inspections, and reviews of DOJ programs.

As a Program Analyst, you will perform the following duties, typically in a team environment as a team member, and occasionally as the sole analyst for specific products of limited scope.

The Program Analyst will actively participate in and assist teams that review DOJ programs and functional areas to assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, or participate in sensitive and complex congressional or DOJ management inquiries referred for review.

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following: Conducting research and collecting and analyzing relevant information from diverse data sources; Interviewing employees, senior managers, and others involved with the program, activity, or function under review; Evaluating internal and external policy, and applying qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to assess programs and processes; Communicating complex and/or controversial issues both in writing and verbally to management; Creating recommendations to facilitate organizational or process changes; Analyzing management responses to report findings and recommendations and preparing formal replies.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.
