Full Job Description

This position is located at Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), Office of Audit, Taxpayer Services and Operational Support.

As an Assistant Inspector General for Audit, you will serve in any one of the Assistant Inspector General for Audit (AlGA) positions that are aligned with the major organizational components of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

You will lead an audit program on any of the IRS business units. All applicants must meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

As a basic requirement, applicants must demonstrate at least one year of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level managerial capability and directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Executive Core Qualifications.

Typically, experience of this nature will have been gained at or above the GS-15 grade level in the Federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or non-governmental organizations.

Failure to meet this basic qualification requirement will disqualify the applicant.

Evidence must be provided that clearly demonstrates the applicant has the necessary level of executive potential, skills, abilities, specialized knowledge, and technical qualifications to perform as a SES executive.

This evidence must include clear, concise examples that emphasize the applicant's level of responsibilities, scope and complexity of assignments, program accomplishments, policy initiatives, and long-range planning.

These will be made against the Executive Core Qualifications and other technical requirements of the position.

EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): The ECQs describe the leadership skills needed to succeed in the SES and provide the focus for OPM certification of executive qualifications.

TECHNICAL PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES (TPCs): The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to perform the duties of the position.

You must demonstrate all of the TPCs to be rated as eligible for this position.

TPC 1 - Experience leading, directing and guiding a Government oversight organization, such as within an Office of Inspector General (OIG) or other organization which has as its mission Government oversight or compliance, which includes experience planning, developing and directing large or national scale financial or operational audits, studies or research using professional standards, such as Government Auditing Standards.

TPC 2 - Experience leading, directing and guiding an organization on Federal tax administration or other Federal regulatory matters. Major Duties:

As an Assistant Inspector General for Audit, you will: 1.

Render day-to-day executive supervision of a segment-of the Audit function; advise subordinate managers on policy matters; ensure proper coordination of the various projects and activities; and control and review of preparation of audit reports.

2. Maintain liaison and working contact with the applicable Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Executives and their staffs to keep abreast of operating problems. 3.

Furnish audit services on areas of potential management improvement and integrity to appropriate management officials, the Inspector General and/or the Congress. 4.

Make workload determinations, prepare justifications, and develop recommendations for long-range planning, the annual budget, and the annual audit programs to provide appropriate audit coverage of the programs and operations of the IRS and Related Entities.

5. Provide executive leadership, as delegated, to major special studies generally requiring the services of the multi-functional staffs.
