The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a Procurement and Supply Specialist 2 in Shoreline, WA.

In this role, the selected candidate will provide quality customer service while performing professional-level procurement of services, supplies, materials, parts, and equipment in accordance with state laws and requirements.

This position also supports inventory management and accountability functions for purchased goods and services, ensuring resources are used efficiently and operations run smoothly.

The role involves collaborating with internal staff, vendors, and other stakeholders, conducting inventory activities across multiple facilities, and contributing to the overall success of the agency’s transportation mission.


What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Procurement and Supply Specialist 2 will:
  • Assist customers with product selection, vendor issues, and procurement questions, research requirements and vendors, and determine the appropriate procurement method.
  • Place orders for goods or services, track procurements, and keep customers informed of progress.
  • Provide customer support and training on procurement policies, procedures, best practices, and contracts, communicating with contract representatives as needed.
  • Support property disposal, process requests, notify WSDOT Audit Office of lost/stolen property, redistribute property, and submit requests to DES for approval as required.
  • Conduct in-person and proactive visits to WSDOT facilities to provide customer service and build familiarity with customers and agency needs.
  • Plan and schedule inventory counts, perform in-person counts, research discrepancies, process requests, and report findings per statewide procedures.
  • Support cellular device account management, including selection, ordering, setup, account training, and property disposal for excess or lost equipment.
  • Serve as backup for Northwest Region Stores, receive and issue inventory and safety equipment, maintain inventory accuracy, perform market/needs assessments, and assist with deliveries.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required:

  • Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and build collaborative relationships with internal staff, vendors, and stakeholders while supporting operational or administrative functions.
  • Purchasing Support: Ability to support purchasing or procurement activities, including researching purchasing options, coordinating with vendors, and placing or tracking orders for goods or services.
  • Policy Research: Ability to research, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including familiarity with procurement guidance such as the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) or comparable regulatory frameworks.
  • Organization Skills: Strong organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to track multiple requests, maintain accurate records, and manage several tasks or processes simultaneously.
  • Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain policies or procedures, provide guidance or training, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Fast-Paced Work: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities while coordinating activities with multiple offices, vendors, and partners.
  • Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Service Oriented: Demonstrates a willingness to take action to meet the needs of others.


In addition, the following are also required:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to travel within the region to multiple work locations to provide customer support, conduct inventory activities, and support operational needs.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also demonstrate:

  • Government Purchasing and Materials Management: Experience supporting government purchasing, inventory, property management, or materials management functions.
  • Systems Experience: Experience using enterprise procurement, financial, or inventory management systems.
  • Policy Research and Application: Experience researching or applying public sector procurement policies or contracts.
  • Broad Customer Service: Experience delivering service and support to a broad customer base.
  • External Customer Support: Experience delivering external customer support.
  • External Vendor Coordination: Experience ordering goods or services from third party vendors or other external suppliers.


Important Notes

  • This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options; however, 50% or more of the time is required to be in office.
  • Travel throughout WSDOT’s Northwest Region may be required.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.

    For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.

    Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
