Job Description

Summary

This job involves operating large, high-speed printing presses to produce U.S. currency and government securities using offset printing techniques.

Full Job Description

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Offset-Lepe Division DCF.

As a Pressman (OFFSET/LEPE/COPEPAK/SCREEN/IFS), you will perform work requiring a wide variety of complex tasks associated with Offset and Typographic Printing technologies including printing U.S.

government securities of currency. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

You must meet the screen-out element Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions.

To meet the screen-out element, applicants must have: "I have experience working as a 2nd Pressperson, assisting in a large format, high-speed, sheet fed and or web/sheet Offset Presses, with direct supervision.

I perform tasks that require me to make changes to accommodate work requirements and priorities.

I receive instructions from a lead Pressperson." In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified.

Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision, Operation of Printing Press, Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic), Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a standing position and considerable bending, stooping, crouching, climbing and stretching are required to operate the equipment and to make necessary adjustments.

There is also moderate to heavy lifting of weights up to 70 pounds of paper stock and rolls of plastic.

Pushing and pulling requirements are 800 pounds assisted by use of a manual floor jack for moving loads up to and around the equipment. Good eyesight is required as well as eye-hand coordination.

Eyesight required is use of both eyes, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing required (aid permitted).

Manual dexterity is required for the operation and adjustment of equipment and for the hand operations associated with binding and finishing activities.

Must be extremely alert and attentive to work and equipment operations to ensure accuracy, detect equipment malfunctions and defective products, to avoid spoilage, and to ensure adherence to all safety requirements.

As a Pressman (OFFSET/LEPE/COPEPAK/SCREEN/IFS), you will: Receive print order and determine or conform to the correct ink rotation and placement of plates for achieving the highest quality Offset Printing possible.

Prepare the printing plates, using a plate bender, for installation on the Super Simultan Printing Press plate cylinders and blankets for installation on all six-blanket cylinders.

Check paper thickness and adjust impression cylinders accordingly. Make necessary adjustments to the press feeder and delivery systems.

Document all security loads of paper as required and adheres to the security rules and regulations set forth.
