The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the operational readiness and reliability of electrical power generation and distribution systems supporting Weapon System Infrastructure (WSI), diesel, gasoline, and/or multifuel engines.

Condition of Employment Continue The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement.

Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 50 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers.

In emergency situations operators will rack in/out breakers. Position must maintain qualification in CPR 13. Position must maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazardous materials program.

This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-5378 POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical makeup of power systems, encompassing generators of varying sizes and configurations, their components, and related support equipment. 2.

Knowledge of modern generator control systems, including their programming, configuration, and troubleshooting, with the ability to integrate them with legacy mechanical systems.

3.Skill in the use of computers, diagnostic software (including sole proprietary software), and remote monitoring tools for system analysis, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring. 4.

Skill in sourcing, adapting, reverse engineering, and/or fabricating components for obsolete equipment with no OEM support, ensuring operational readiness and lifespan extension. 5.

Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems in power generation systems, utilizing diagnostic software, technical documentation, and analytical reasoning. 6.

Ability to problem-solve and demonstrated resourcefulness in working with limited resources, adapting to challenging circumstances, and developing innovative solutions to maintain operational readiness in a prime power plant environment.

Physical Effort The work involves physical activities such as walking, climbing, and bending to perform a variety of tasks associated with checking high-voltage electrical equipment, climbing on roof tops of multi-story buildings, frequently climbing tall ladders; crouching or crawling in limited space; etc., while inspecting equipment and systems.

The employee is required to lift heavy objects, equipment or other items weighing 50 pounds alone. With help, the employee may be required to lift items more than 50 pounds.

Working Conditions May work inside and/or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise.

Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions.

Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces.

May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects.

Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants.

To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and fire-resistant clothing.

Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Installs temporary mobile emergency generators.
