Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping to run and improve police programs by coordinating with people inside and outside the department, gathering and analyzing information, and handling communications like emails and meetings.

It's a support role in a city police department, funded by grants, so it's not a permanent position with full job protections.

A good fit would be someone organized and communicative with experience in customer service or public outreach, who enjoys working with data and teams in a government setting.

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in the implementation, coordination, and analysis of various Police programs. Provides general information to department staff and the general public. Exercises no supervision.

This position is a "grant funded" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Requirements

  • Make contact with customers/or residents and acts as a liaison for the department.
  • Prepares estimates, memos, letters and correspondence. Attends meetings with customers and stakeholders when needed.
  • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data for assigned programs.
  • Interprets guidelines, policies, and/or procedures for assigned program.
  • Organizes and maintains filing systems and records related to specific area of assignment.
  • Works to ensure coordination with different divisions of department and with outside agencies.
  • Participates with agencies and department programs in recognizing operational problems; assists in making required adjustments; and promotes program innovation.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in event coordination, public relations, or customer service.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

    Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Three years of experience in Police Administration work.
    • Knowledge of the procurement process for the City of San Antonio.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.

    Applicant Information

    Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

    One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

    One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
