Job Description

Summary

This job is for a physical therapist at a military medical center in Tacoma, Washington, where you'll evaluate patients, create and adjust treatment plans, and lead a team of assistants to help people recover from injuries or surgeries.

Key Requirements

  • Graduate degree in physical therapy from a program accredited by CAAHEP or a recognized U.S. Department of Education organization, including completion of clinical requirements

About the Position: This position is located in the Physical Therapy and Rehab Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Basic Requirements for Physical Therapist: Education: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included a physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.

AND Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0633 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting physical therapy patient evaluations, developing physical therapy treatment plans, and providing education to patients or staff.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Perform a wide range of complex physical therapy duties requiring an advanced practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine and data collection.
  • Perform comprehensive neuromusculoskeletal evaluations (in a physician extender role) on patients presenting with medical or surgical diagnoses with or without physician referral.
  • Develop short and long term treatment goals and modifies the treatment plan as necessary during the treatment process in order to meet the established goals and changing needs of the patient.
  • Direct and coordinate military and civilian physical therapy assistants and technicians engaged in performing physical therapy care and treatment.
  • Responsible for the administrative management of the section including decisions concerning the delivery of care, contributing input to budgeting and staffing priorities.
  • Develop protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP) for PT programs.
  • Serve as Physical Therapy subject matter expert for designated program(s).
