This job involves acting as a lead expert in pharmaceuticals for Pennsylvania's Insurance Department, where you'll review insurance companies' drug plans, ensure they follow fair rules and medical standards, and advise on regulations to protect consumers.
You'll also handle complaints, communicate with stakeholders, and help shape policies that make healthcare more transparent and accountable.
It's ideal for a licensed pharmacist with clinical experience who enjoys consulting, problem-solving, and making a public impact without direct patient care.

In this role, you will provide expertise and guidance to department leaders regarding regulations, laws, policies, and practices involving pharmaceuticals and pharmacy benefit plans.
This includes examining regulated organizations’ business practices as well as evaluating whether formulary design and specialty drug placement are based on nationally recognized medical standards, consistent with applicable governmental guidelines, and reflect current medical and scientific evidence.
Work involves advising and assisting department staff reviewing network adequacy, transparency reports, contract provisions, and related items; contributing to the development of regulatory guidance; and providing technical assistance and guidance in the interpretation and application of regulations and procedures.
You will also be expected to investigate complaints and complete special projects as assigned.
Effective communication is paramount for engaging with regulated entities and their representatives, collaborating with the agency’s legislative affairs office, and coordinating with the agency’s communications office.
Your work will help entities maintain or return to compliance, help legislators anticipate the effectiveness of proposed legislation, and help regulated entities, pharmacies, community groups, and consumers stay informed.
Join our team to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of all people in Pennsylvania with this professional, consultative pharmaceutical career opportunity!
