This job involves studying oil and gas data to help forecast Alaska's revenue from these resources, building models to predict taxes and production, and advising on laws that affect the state's economy.

The position will provide you with hands-on experience working directly with state financial data and fiscal policy, with in depth focus on oil and gas issues.
This position is located in the Atwood Building in Anchorage.

Petroleum Economist 1Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Completion of a postsecondary education program with a major emphasis in a discipline of economics, accounting, public or business administration, petroleum engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related field.
And
Progressively responsible professional experience in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of economic, scientific, social science, or similar data.

"Professional experience" means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.
"Progressively responsible" means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.
Ability to pass an APSIN security clearance background check - per AS 39.90.210, as well as the Commissioner’s general authority to protect confidential information under AS 43.05.010 and AS 43.05.230
Ability to pass a Federal Tax Information security clearance background check - per IRS Publication 1075 and the Tax Division confidentiality policy.
