Key Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • Three years of experience working with school-aged children in afterschool, camp, daycare, or similar settings (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (must obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Ability to implement behavior strategies, monitor progress, and use de-escalation tactics
  • Strong collaboration skills with staff, teachers, and families
  • Fingerprinting required for background check

Job Description
The Building Brains Afterschool Behavior Specialist will be assisting the afterschool program team by supporting students with challenging behaviors, emotional regulation needs, or social skills. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEP ) and Behavior Retention Plans (BIP) as applicable, providing necessary coaching and professional development for team members. This position will also be collaborating with staff on the development and implementation of social emotional enrichment plans for students.

Essential Duties
  • Implementing behavior intervention strategies and individualized behavior plans as applicable
  • Monitoring and documenting student behavior, progress, and potential triggers
  • Supporting emotional regulation and social-emotional skill development
  • Collaborating with afterschool staff, teachers, and administrations to ensure consistency
  • Modeling positive behavior strategies and coaching staff as needed
  • Responding to behavioral incidents using deescalation tactics and trauma informed practices
  • Creating a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all students
  • Communicating with families when appropriate regarding student progress or concerns in a positive and informative way
  • Assisting with the delivery of professional development related to behavior management and child development, as applicable
Public Speaking Duties
  • Must be able to interact with individuals or small groups of students with patience and grace

Hourly rate
$21.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field AND
  • Three years of experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting preferred OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (must be obtained within first 90 days of employment)
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field AND
  • Three years of experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting
