Full Job Description

Are you an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys helping others? The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is excited to welcome a motivated and personable Park Resource Ranger to play a vital role in keeping our landscapes safe and welcoming for all of our visitors at the Hickory Run State Park Complex. Here, you will serve as primary point of contact for park goers, providing all aspects of visitor services while also ensuring that public safety needs are being promptly addressed. Requirements

As a Park Resource Ranger, your work will focus on providing professional visitor services, outdoor recreation services and information, and overall public safety.

You will be responsible for traveling the park by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle to address problems or concerns which may pose a threat to the health and safety of park visitors.

You will inspect buildings, facilities, and grounds for safety hazards and immediately correct or control the hazard.

You also will oversee visitor activities to ensure proper use of the park's facilities, as well as educate visitors regarding park rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Within this role, you may be required to participate in providing emergency care for visitors and conducting search and rescue efforts.

In addition, you will respond to visitor complaints or incidents, reporting any violations of the law to the Park Manager.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately April 2026 until October 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment in April 2027.

  • Work schedule will vary. Work will be scheduled 5 days/37.5 hours per week and will include a 30-minute lunch.
    • Work may be scheduled on weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Special Requirements:

    • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
    • This position requires all employees to obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

    Legal Requirements:

    • You must pass a background investigation.
    • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
      • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
    • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
