Requirements

In this position, you will engage in semi-skilled tasks either independently or collaboratively as part of a team, providing support to skilled workers in the routine maintenance and construction activities at the Lackawanna State Park Complex. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of general housekeeping and building maintenance duties, including the cleaning and stocking of campground shower houses, day-use restrooms, pit latrines, offices, and various other facilities. You will also be tasked with performing minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs and tightening fixtures, while assisting in more complex repairs to buildings and facilities by utilizing tools from carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other construction trades.

Additionally, you will operate and help maintain vehicles and equipment used throughout the park, ensuring they are kept in good working condition. Ground maintenance will be a key aspect of your role, involving tasks such as mowing grass and cutting weeds with riding mowers, hand mowers, or weed eaters. You will also be responsible for litter collection, loading and transporting materials in dump trucks or pickup trucks, cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging holes and ditches, and maintaining drains and culverts. Your duties will extend to site preparation, seeding, and establishing new turf areas, as well as planting and caring for trees and shrubs. Painting and staining park buildings, signs, and gates will also be part of your responsibilities. It is essential that you ensure the safe and proper use of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools while assisting park visitors with information in a friendly and helpful manner. You will be required to complete necessary documentation, including daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records, and leave slips.

Furthermore, you will construct simple forms for cement work using carpentry tools, mix and place cement, finish surfaces with masonry tools, and lay stone and block walls. Communication will be vital, as you will operate a two-way radio following established procedures, and you may be called upon to perform related tasks as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay.

The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.

  • Work shifts/days vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hrs. per week to include weekends and holidays if needed

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
    • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
