Job Description

Summary

This job involves teaching students who are blind or visually impaired how to navigate their surroundings safely and independently, both individually and in groups, while tailoring lessons to their personal goals.

It also requires working closely with teachers, parents, and school staff to support these students and suggesting campus improvements for better accessibility.

Full Job Description

Provide individual or group instruction designed to increase orientation and mobility skills of students with visual impairments based on specific IEP goals and campus program needs. Provide training to staff to encourage consistent support for student achievement. Collaborate with school/agency staff to schedule visits and provide O&M therapy designed to increase specific skills. Consult with parents, medical staff, teachers, and other professionals regarding the needs of students. Consult with administrators, grounds and facilities staff to make recommendations regarding the most appropriate campus design to promote independence for students who are blind.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Orientation and Mobility Certification required. Must have 3 to 5 years of professional O&M experience in a school setting.
