Summary

This job involves analyzing military strategies and creating plans to help U.S.

Navy surface ships operate effectively in battles or peaceful missions, while advising leaders on the best ways to use these ships against potential threats.

A good fit would be someone with experience in defense planning or military operations who enjoys working with teams to solve complex problems and stay updated on changing threats.

It requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate recommendations clearly to decision-makers.

Full Job Description

You will serve as an OPERATIONS & PLANS SPECIALIST in the SURFACE WARFARE TECHNICAL DIVISION of NSMWDC DET DAHLGREN.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing tactical strategies and developing operational guidance for U.S.

Navy surface units to make recommendations regarding fleet capabilities in support of combat and non-combat military operations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will develop products supporting employment operational capabilities in combat and noncombat environments across the range of military operations, influence operational/strategic policy and future capabilities of U.S. Navy surface combatants.
  • You will negotiate and authorize statements of work including execution timelines and deliverables.
  • You will coordinate/collaborate with other government acquisition organizations in order to leverage their analytic capabilities to reduce cost of command efforts.
  • You will forecast future analysis needs based upon capability delivery and changes in operational environments to include adversary tactical and operational changes.
  • You will interpret capabilities and limitations of U.S. Navy surface units’ against adversary capabilities and inform commanders of employment recommendations.
  • You will establish and maintain personal working contacts with resources sponsors, officers, and other acquisition offices to monitor wholeness and readiness issues with U.S. Navy surface units.
  • You will embark on surface ships or afloat staffs to provide direct advisement on employment of U.S. Navy surface combat capabilities in both non-combat and combat environments.
  • You will validate assumptions and modeling used for analysis and translates stakeholder needs and expectations into technical statements and assessment requirements.
