The Oil and Gas Industry is constantly changing, and the Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Oil and Gas is leading the way. We are seeking an Oil and Gas Inspector to join our team and play a crucial role in protecting Pennsylvania's environment. This position offers a chance to advance your environmental career and apply your technical skills to positively influence the state's natural resources.

Requirements

The Oil and Gas Inspector is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Environmental Quality Board's rules and regulations within a designated area. This role requires adherence to various departmental policies, including those related to safety and health protocols. The inspector conducts field inspections of oil and gas wells throughout their lifecycle, from drilling to plugging, including both coal and non-coal sites. These inspections assess compliance with legal requirements, verify the validity of permits, and ensure that drilling occurs at the correct locations as indicated on plat maps.

Additionally, you will investigate any spills or gas releases, gather necessary samples and data, and document site conditions through photographs and videos. Inspection findings are recorded in reports, entered into the eFacts system, and shared with operators, while follow-up actions are taken to ensure ongoing compliance. You will also evaluate proposed school sites for potential hazards related to active or abandoned oil and gas wells and advises relevant officials as needed, particularly regarding any hazardous atmospheric conditions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Knox. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or
  • An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
