It's a great fit for someone with hands-on experience in the oil and gas field who wants to use their skills for public service and environmental protection.
Are you an experienced professional in the natural gas or oil industry seeking a meaningful career in public service?
The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Oil and Gas Inspector to join our team and support the vital mission of protecting Pennsylvania’s environment.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to advance your career while playing a key part in monitoring oil and gas well activities and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Join us in promoting the responsible development of energy resources while preserving the balance between innovation and environmental stewardship.
Your expertise will have a lasting impact on both your professional growth and on the sustainable management of our natural resources.

In this position, you will carry out monitoring, inspection, and compliance activities throughout the Northwest District to support the administration of the Oil and Gas Act, Conservation Law, Coal and Gas Resource Coordination Law, and related state regulations and policies.
You will perform field inspections of oil and gas wells during all phases of their lifecycle, including drilling, production, alteration, inactivity, and plugging, to verify compliance with applicable laws and permit requirements.
Inspections will also confirm that wells are drilled at approved locations and that permits remain valid.
Duties include investigating gas releases and spills, collecting samples and data, and preparing detailed inspection reports to document findings.
You will conduct gas storage reservoir maintenance inspections and respond to public complaints involving health and safety concerns, environmental impacts, site reclamation, abandoned wells, and potential violations.
Additionally, you will communicate identified issues to operators, initiate enforcement and compliance actions, recommend corrective measures, issue notices of violation, and assist with drafting orders, penalties, and citations.
You will also monitor and track corrective actions through follow-up inspections and review of submitted documentation to ensure issues are properly resolved.
