Base salary range: $37,764 - $49,094
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-5. Bachelor's degree + some experience.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves providing administrative support to the Director of Accounting Operations and the broader accounting team at a Department of Defense finance agency, including managing schedules, handling communications, ordering supplies, and coordinating meetings and travel.
It's a good fit for someone with solid office support experience who enjoys being the go-to person for information and logistics in a structured government environment.
The role requires strong organizational skills and comfort with basic computer tasks, but no advanced technical expertise.
Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.
Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need.
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience is defined as: Providing administrative, technical, and general office support duties to an organization; serving as a point of contact for internal and external customers to provide general and technical information about an organization; OR using computer software to prepare, edit, and format general communications, reports, and briefings.
A minimum typing proficiency of 40 Words Per Minute is required.
Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying.
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.
