This role involves leading a team of occupational therapists in a Los Angeles County health facility, focusing on helping patients recover physical and mental abilities through activities, with a special emphasis on supporting people experiencing homelessness via the Housing for Health program.

Department of Health Services (Housing for Health) is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Occupational Therapy Chief I vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before your initial work period ends, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Occupational Therapy Chief I.

Directs a therapy staff in an acute, rehabilitation, or psychiatric hospital that provides occupational therapy services for the treatment of patients by the use of exercise and occupational or recreation activities designed to improve and restore physical and mental functioning and to assist patients to adjust to their disabilities.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class serve as head of occupational therapy services and direct, through first level supervision, the activities of a small therapy staff of approximately ten to twenty occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and other support staff.
Incumbents work within administrative policies and guidelines as interpreted by a hospital administrator or an administrative physician, and plan, organize and direct all aspects of occupational therapy services necessary to meet the needs of a wide variety of physical or mental conditions.
These positions plan, organize and direct the therapy staff in carrying out limited education programs for student therapists, therapy staff and allied health disciplines.
Incumbents serve as the technical resource person to the occupational therapy staff and allied health personnel.
