Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping people who are blind or visually impaired in South Carolina by assessing their needs, creating personalized plans for employment or independent living, and providing counseling and training to improve their lives.

Key Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field such as Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or Human Services
  • At least 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or in workforce development
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with experience in career counseling or case management (state minimum)
  • Ability to determine eligibility for vocational rehabilitation and older blind programs
  • Skills in developing individualized plans for employment (IPE) and independent living (IPIL)
  • Experience in counseling, guidance, assessments, and caseload management
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) preferred

The SCCB is currently recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in the Columbia Metroplitan Area to provide vocational rehabilitation services and older blind services to consumers who are blind or have low vision with the ultimate goal of achieving meaningful employment and greater independence.

Duties for the OB/VR Counselor include, but are not limited to:

  • Build community partnerships & support agency.
  • Determine eligibility for VR and Older Blind programs.
  • Develop individualized plans (IPE for employment / IPIL for independent living)
  • Complete assessments to inform
  • Provide counseling & guidance; manage caseload for timely, quality services
  • Deliver home management tools & training for Older Blind consumers
  • Coordinate employment services (VR) with the Employment Consultant
  • Documentation, data quality, and procurement/authorizations
  • Close cases appropriately
  • Other duties as assigned.


Frequent in-state travel is required.

Requirements

State: A bachelor's degree in a related field and experience in career counseling or related case management.
Agency: Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a combination of a related Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or Human Services and at least 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or workforce development.

Qualifications

Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) is preferred but not required.
