This job involves maintaining and repairing traffic signals, detectors, and related electrical systems in the field, often using heavy equipment like bucket trucks.
It also includes inspecting contractor work, managing supplies, and handling preventive checks to keep intersections safe and operational.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on electrical experience, comfort working outdoors in tough conditions, and a willingness to get a commercial driver's license.
Performs field maintenance including placement of obsolete or damaged cabinets and controllers and the repair of detector loops and traffic detectors.
Operates a large bucket truck and pulling pole trailer with signal equipment.
Perform duties of Level II IMSA certified technician in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals or similar electrical systems.
Performs preventive maintenance checks on traffic signal equipment and enters data into computer and SIF Program. Performs maintenance and repair of building electrical systems.
Inspect intersections installation by contractors, ensuring all specifications are met. Assists in preparing various maintenance reports detailing labor, material and equipment cost of repairs.
Maintains an inventory of electrical and electronic supplies and monitors expenditures. Uses State Purchasing Card to procure supplies as needed.
Interprets blueprints for the installation and repair of traffic signalized inspections. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and one (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires driving for extended periods, walking, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be subject to a certain degree of risk working with electrical currents.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis. Works in all types of weather.
