Full Job Description

You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) LEADER in the Quality Assurance Department, Nuclear Inspection Division (Code 139) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will demonstrate proper inspection methods. Leading by example.
  • You will perform mechanical, piping and structural inspections on nuclear reactor plant, refueling and overhaul work.
  • You will check inspections in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisors' instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
  • You will perform receipt inspections, pre-use inspections, and marking verification of naval nuclear material.
  • You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness by performing surveillance inspections and final inspections prior to final system closures.
  • You will perform in-process and acceptance weld joint inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests (NDT).
  • You will independently initiate and authorize rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by preparing deficiency reports.
  • You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections, and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.
