Job Description

Summary

This job involves planning and overseeing engineering work on nuclear-powered naval ships, including refueling, repairs, maintenance, and testing at a shipyard in Hawaii.

You'll review plans for technical issues, ensure safety controls, and solve complex problems related to nuclear reactors.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department under the supervision of the Nuclear Planning and Estimating Branch Head of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of nuclear engineering that enables the incumbent to serve as a nuclear planner for work that integrates different phases such as overhaul, testing, maintenance, modification, and refueling associated with nuclear powered naval vessels and nuclear facilities.; Experience demonstrating knowledge of shipyards, operations, and communication, policies, practices, and functions of the various departments and commands or similar.; Experience or knowledge of technical and planning requirements for TWD writing, radiological controls, work induction, and work certification.

Thorough knowledge of basic shop and trade operations and work processes.; General knowledge and understanding of the relationship and general operations of production supporting activities including quality and reliability assurance, budget and funding, and supply and purchasing.

  • You will have full responsibility for planning project work in connection with refueling, alteration, repair, maintenance and testing associated with nuclear reactor plants.
  • You will review of the work products of the planner and estimators for any potential technical problems and to ensure that appropriate material, quality and radiological controls are provided.
  • You will formulate, execute, advise on, and explain recommendations or solutions to modify standard practices, equipment, devices, processes, and techniques and resolve a wide variety of complex problems.
  • You will perform preliminary review of the work products of planners and estimators for any potential technical problems and ensure that appropriate material, quality, and radiological controls are provided.
  • You will modify, adapt, and/or refine existing applications, processes, precedents, and techniques associated with nuclear ship planning.
  • You will consolidate, standardize, and simply requirements associated with the performance of nuclear work.
  • You will provide planning for highly technical or unusual problems associated with work on reactor plants.
  • You will maintain material accounting records, material and fund controls.
  • You will conduct engineering evaluations and cost benefit analysis.
