Full Job Description

Network Technician II
The Department of Administration's (Admin) Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is the state’s central provider of IT services to state government agencies. Our Services Management team is maturing and growing. If you are customer service oriented and focused on the efficiency technology brings to an organization, this position is for you! In this role you will assist the Department of Technology Operations (DTO) Services Management team in both inside and outside plant communications infrastructure. You will maintain documentation of current inside and outside plant hardware and wiring. Make physical moves, adds, changes and repairs to inside plant hardware and wiring. You will provide technical and administrative support to Cable and Wire group for documentation, applications, reporting, and inventory.

This position is onsite in Columbia, South Carolina.


Responsibilities of the Network Technician II:
  • Create and maintain mapping documentation and software of DTO's fiber infrastructure.
  • Assist with management of DTO owned outside plant infrastructure. Performs assigned tasks assigned by manager, lead engineer or service ticket requests.
  • Install, rearrange, test and maintain inside plant hardware requested by internal or external agency requests.
  • Provide cable locater contractor with locating assistance. Monitors locate contractor to ensure tickets are properly marked and revisited as required. In the event of damaged cable, assists with the repair effort.
  • Perform other related duties as required or needed.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of relevant experience in Information Technology, communication cabling installations, or
  • An associate's degree in a relevant technology discipline and one (1) year of relevant experience in Information Technology
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of inside and outside plant cabling and the latest trends in communications connectivity.
  • Ability to update cable mapping software with changes made to communication cabling distributions.
  • Use test equipment to establish communication pathways and to properly locate underground fiber.
  • Establish effective working relationships with vendors.
  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires routine driver duties.
  • Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending.
  • Position requires frequent lifting: 50 lbs.
  • Position requires up-to-date certification(s). Must maintain up to date Defensive Driving Certificate.
  • Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
  • May require work beyond the 37.5 hour week including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must carry a mobile communications device if provided.
  • Must be able to work during emergency/disaster events, including hazardous weather.
