Summary

This job involves setting up, fixing, and keeping track of the computer networks that connect all parts of city government in Pittsburgh.

You'll work on a team to ensure reliable internet and data systems for various departments.

Key Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience in network systems analysis, design, development, implementation, and/or programming
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant certification such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCSA, CCSE, CCSM, FCP, FCSS, FCX, PCNSA, PCNSE, PCSAE, or PCDRA, obtained within the last 5 years
  • Residency in the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment and throughout the job
  • Current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation including criminal, driver's license, and tax checks
  • Submission of official transcripts verifying education prior to hire

Full Job Description

Installs, maintains, and documents city-wide network infrastructure. As a member of the Technology Infrastructure Team, this individual provides the technical knowledge and support required to maintain the diverse network infrastructure maintained by I&P for all departments in city government.

Salary: $86,008 per year.

    Qualifying Requirements:
    Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated todetermineif you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status via email.

    • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show four (4) years of full-time network experience, which includes: performing systems analysis, design, development, implementation, and/or programming. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
    • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

      A relevant certification, such as CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, CCSA/CCSE/CCSM, FCP/FCSS/FCX, PCNSA/PCNSE, PCSAE/PCDRA, obtained within the last 5 years.

      EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above.

      The Total Qualifying Requirement is eight (8) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

      Additional Information

      • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots network operating systems.
      • Performs all network related troubleshooting across multiple distributed sites, including tier 1, 2 & 3 network troubleshooting.
      • Installs and configures networking equipment, including but not limited to, servers, routers, switches and cabling.
      • Configures networking protocols to ensure proper communications in accordance to best practices.
      • Ensures the security of City wide network, including, but not limited to Firewalls, VPN, Patching, and Incident Response.
      • Develops, establishes, and maintains working relationships with management, staff, users, vendors and others.
      • Develops procedures, operating guides and documentation.
      • Assists with establishing and evaluating new technologies in the City with regards to industry, direction, and future.
      • Provides backup to other engineers and technicians.
      • Performs wireless site-surveys.
      • Maintains records, both manually and by computer, and prepares accurate reports.
      • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
